• Nick Glasgow is a 28-year-old from Fremont, California, who learned this past spring he had Leukemia, and that he needs a bone marrow transplant to save his life.

Nick is an employee of EMC Corporation in Pleasanton, California, as is his mother.

Due to his mixed heritage of 1/4 Japanese and 3/4 Caucasian, finding a bone marrow match for Nick is far more difficult.

Since an email was sent to EMC employees around the world May 15, thousands of people from every corner of the globe have expressed their support and commitment by registering to become donors.

This blog provides updates on how people can help, on Nick's condition, and other aspects of the race to save Nick.

Update from Nick’s Friend – Stacy Morales

The third round of chemotherapy failed to put Nick into remission and “time is really running out.” Carole is in contact with Stanford to see the status of a bone marrow donor match. She’s hoping to hear from them today.

There are many unanswered questions right now: If there is a match found can Nick have an immediate transplant? How long will that take? How long does he have to wait? He needs to be strong enough to endure a transplant, and that is the big unanswered question.

What Carole is asking for is for people to still be tested if they haven’t.

Secondly, for prayer.

Nick and Carole are terrified right now due to all of the uncertainty and running out of options. Please say a prayer for a match, strength for Nick to endure a transplant, that the transplant takes, as well as strength for Carole as she stands by her only son’s side during this uncertain time.

Update from Nick’s Friend — Stacy Morales

“Nick’s doctors decided to do a third round of chemotherapy to hopefully put Nick into remission or at the very least slow down the cancer. He finished this on Monday, May 25th. He has had a very tough week, and expects this next week to be as well. Typically the two weeks following chemo are brutal. Testing will be done in approximately a week to see what affect the chemotherapy had on the cancer cells. The testing of the registry to find a match is currently taking place. Hopefully we’ll receive good news soon. Everyone should continue to spread the word, and be tested if they haven’t. I spoke with Nick on Monday, and despite how he’s feeling physically his spirits are up. He is amazed at all of the support and generosity of spirit of everyone. He said words cannot express how grateful he and his family are. He is inspired to fight for every single person that has given of themselves.”

Report from NetApp Donor Drive
From Jan Stewart, Community Relations Manager

NetApp employees are proud to support the global effort to find a donor match for Nick Glasgow. As soon as we learned of his situation from one of our employees, Joel Reich, we took immediate action to hold an urgent global bone marrow registration drive for our 8,000 employees worldwide.

We’ve had a terrific response to our global bone marrow registration drive so far; 85 people registered at our drive in Sunnyvale yesterday, and we’re certain we’ve had many more people around the U.S. already register online. NetApp is covering the cost of all testing for our employees.

We also have employees around the world scheduling local drives in Israel, South Africa, and U.S. sites in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina; New York, NY and Chicago, Illinois at this time.

We are all hopeful and optimistic that together we can find a match for Nick as soon as possible.

Special Thanks from Nick
